SHAH ALAM, 11 November 2022 – The following is Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS)’s response regarding a news report published on the mStar portal titled “Ke Hulu Ke Hilir, Duit Banyak Habis Demi Bantuan One-Off… Pelajar B40 Kecewa Permohonan Ditolak Sebab Sign Mencurigakan” recently.

According to mStar, a Facebook post circulated alleging that a student at an institution of higher learning (IPT), using the identity profile Abdul Ghafur, had their Sumbangan Pendidikan Zakat Anak Selangor (SPZAS) application rejected due to a suspicious verification stamp and signature on their study verification letter.

For information, before this news appeared on mStar, LZS had already contacted the complainant via private message to obtain personal details.

This was necessary because LZS could not verify the application as the Facebook identity profile was fake. The complainant was eventually reached via private message and provided their personal details for verification purposes.

Accordingly, LZS provided clarification regarding the technical errors made in the preparation of the required documents and considered appropriate alternative solutions to assist the complainant in correcting the issue.

To date, LZS has received over 40,000 applications for SPZAS IPT, which remains open until 3 December 2022. SPZAS was introduced to help ease the burden of non-asnaf groups (fakir, miskin, and muallaf), particularly those in the B40 and M40 income groups, who require assistance to meet educational needs, using allocations under the fisabilillah asnaf category.
