Education strengthens the human capital of asnaf through access to higher education, skills training, and student development. Education serves as a key factor in transforming social mobility, nurturing a more knowledgeable, competitive asnaf generation that is capable of contributing back to the community.
Our Priorities
Primary/Secondary Education Development
School education forms the most important foundation in shaping the identity, discipline, and academic abilities of asnaf children. The focus is on ensuring continuous access to formal education through support for school needs, learning motivation, and early interventions to reduce dropout rates. Education at this level is crucial for building self-confidence and providing a strong foundation for advancement to higher levels of learning.
Among the initiatives undertaken:
Zakat Adopted School Program (PROSAZ) Incentives for school management to implement academic, skills, and spiritual programs for the development of asnaf and underprivileged children.
Minor Scholarship Monthly assistance and tuition support for children of asnaf, fakir, and poor families who secure placements in SBP, MRSM, MITS, and SAM boarding schools.
Higher Education Development
Higher education serves as a key catalyst for improving the social mobility of asnaf towards a more stable and competitive life. Priority is given to support for admission into higher education institutions, professional skills training, and graduate employability development. Through higher education, asnaf have the opportunity to increase their income, achieve sustainable careers, and ultimately break free from the cycle of poverty.
Among the initiatives undertaken:
Higher Education Scholarship Assistance (Domestic) Assists with tuition fees and educational support for children of fakir, poor, and mualaf families to pursue full-time studies at local higher education institutions (IPT/ILK).
al-Biruni Institutional Support Program
The Al-Biruni Project by LZS is a learning and innovation centre focused on the development of urban poor children (asnaf), particularly in the areas of education and human capital development.
To implement this program, Persatuan Adab Gemilang (PAG) has been appointed as the Program Facilitator for Child Development at several Al-Biruni locations, namely:
Al-Biruni Desa Mentari
Al-Biruni Tanjong Karang
Al-Biruni Pangsapuri Enggang, Puchong
The Al-Biruni Project was established as a one-stop hub providing learning spaces, guidance, and comprehensive development programs for urban poor/asnaf children. These centres are developed by converting apartment units into safe and conducive learning environments. The project also involves strategic partnerships with corporate partners as a collaborative effort to address urban child poverty in an integrated and effective manner.
The establishment of the Al-Biruni Project aligns with findings from the UNICEF Survey Report (February 2018) on urban child poverty in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya, which identified several high-risk areas, including Desa Mentari. In response to these findings, LZS has taken proactive measures to ensure the welfare, education, and future of urban asnaf children are safeguarded.
Overall, Al-Biruni LZS represents Lembaga Zakat Selangor’s ongoing initiative to empower education, innovation, and human capital development, aimed at nurturing a competitive asnaf generation with the potential to break free from the cycle of poverty.
