SHAH ALAM, 15 March 2023 – The Zakat Fitrah rate in Selangor for Ramadan 2023, corresponding to 1444 Hijrah, is based on the type of rice consumed, set at RM7, RM14, and RM21 per person.
The rates are determined according to the price of rice based on the grade and type most commonly consumed by Muslims in Selangor, measured at one Baghdad gantang, equivalent to 2.6 kilograms of rice.
The RM7 rate applies to Muslims whose daily staple is local ‘super special’ rice and represents the minimum obligatory rate as decided by the Selangor State Fatwa Committee.
The RM14 rate applies to super import rice, brown rice, glutinous rice, herba ponni rice, and fragrant rice. Meanwhile, the RM21 rate is for Muslims whose daily staple is basmati rice, Japanese rice, red rice, or equivalent types.
For information, LZS has been encouraging Muslims to pay zakat fitrah based on the rice they consume since 2018.
Accordingly, LZS has introduced three colored fitrah coupons corresponding to their ringgit value: green coupon (RM7), red coupon (RM14), and orange coupon (RM21).
To facilitate zakat fitrah payment, LZS has appointed 2,642 Penolong Amil Fitrah (PAF) across Selangor this Ramadan. The public is reminded to pay zakat fitrah to appointed PAFs, who hold certified appointment cards and letters verified by LZS.
Zakat fitrah can also be paid through 17 Higher Education Institution Assistant Amil (IPT) and 92 Tahfiz Institutes and Private Religious Schools in Selangor.

In conjunction with Ramadan, LZS also offers Zakat On Wheels at strategic locations such as mosques, Ramadan bazaars, farmers’ markets, and supermarkets throughout Selangor to facilitate Muslims requiring LZS services.
Additionally, LZS will open 18 branches across Selangor seven days a week, including public holidays, throughout Ramadan. Office hours on weekdays are 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., while on Saturdays, Sundays, and public holidays, branches operate from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
