SHAH ALAM, 3 October 2022 – A total of RM20 million in zakat distribution has been allocated for educational assistance to Muslims in Selangor through the Sumbangan Pendidikan Zakat Anak Selangor (SPZAS), covering primary schools, secondary schools, and institutions of higher learning (IPT). Applications open online starting today.
Applications can be submitted via www.zakatselangor.com.my/spzas until 3 December 2022.
The assistance is open to Malaysian citizens who are Muslims, born and residing in Selangor, or those who have resided and continue to reside in Selangor for not less than three years.
In addition, the applicant’s total household income must exceed the haddul kifayah (the sufficiency threshold used to determine asnaf status), but the excess amount must not exceed RM11,000.
Each approved SPZAS application for primary and secondary school students will receive assistance based on the number of dependents, at a rate of RM200 per person. Meanwhile, IPT applicants will receive assistance ranging from RM700 to RM2,500.
However, fakir, miskin, and muallaf asnaf who are already receiving educational sponsorship from Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS) are not eligible to apply for this assistance. They may refer to the nearest LZS branch or assistant amil officers for educational aid if needed.
SPZAS was introduced to help ease the burden of non-asnaf groups (fakir, miskin, and muallaf), particularly those in the B40 and M40 income groups, who require assistance to meet educational needs, using allocations under the fisabilillah asnaf category.
