SHAH ALAM, 3 April 2024 – Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS) is targeting RM260 million in zakat collection this Ramadan to support the needs of the asnaf community in Selangor. Of this amount, RM220 million is expected from zakat on wealth, while RM40 million is targeted from zakat fitrah.
Earlier, 42 companies, including three individual zakat contributors, paid a total of RM6,110,127.80 in business zakat during the Iftar with Muzakki and Ramadan Zakat Handover (IMTIYAZ) 2024 ceremony officiated by LZS Chief Operations Officer, Ahmad Fadhil Hassan, here today.
Bank Muamalat Malaysia Berhad led the list with a business zakat contribution of RM2,037,878.40, followed by Alliance Islamic Bank Berhad with RM600,000.00, Kenanga Investment Bank Berhad with RM213,549.15, and Selangor Specialist Hospital Sdn. Bhd. with RM180,621.58.
Other contributors included Kajang Specialist Hospital Sdn. Bhd. with RM155,000.00, Teraju Ekonomi Asnaf Sdn. Bhd. with RM138,120.52, and ZAR Lynx Sdn. Bhd. with RM120,000.00 in business zakat.
During the same event, LZS also distributed zakat assistance totaling RM5,856,886.60.
Of this, RM5,712,000.00 will be distributed to 1,904 LZS asnaf students in the form of laptops. Three individuals will receive medical assistance: Shakira Chong Abdullah (RM41,940.00), Maslinatunniza Mansor (RM32,946.60), and Ariq Rifqi Huzaini (RM20,000.00). Meanwhile, Pertubuhan Kebajikan Al-Fikrah Malaysia received RM50,000.00 in zakat contributions.
Additionally, six companies received the Muzakki Recognition (IKTIRAF) as appreciation for partnering with LZS to support the asnaf community through their commitment to paying business and income zakat.
For your information, IKTIRAF was introduced in 2021 to acknowledge corporate companies that consistently pay business zakat and employers who actively implement the Salary Deduction Scheme (SPG) for their employees.
