KAJANG, 24 September 2022 – Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS) Hulu Langat district today went to the ground to identify families in need and eligible to be registered as asnaf, and subsequently assisted through zakat benefits under the Skuad Jejak Kemiskinan (SJK) programme here.
The operation involved 45 families from the parishes of Masjid At-Taqwa, Bandar Bukit Mahkota; Masjid Bandar Seri Putra; and Masjid Sungai Kembong Hilir.
This routine operation, which focuses on searching, investigating, and assisting, aims to identify individuals or families in need who will be listed as fakir, miskin, and mualaf asnaf. It aligns with LZS’s goal of addressing poverty in Selangor, particularly among those who are eligible but have yet to receive assistance from LZS due to various factors.
Through this operation, on-site investigations were carried out to assess needs based on the haddul kifayah (poverty determination threshold) of the families involved.
Eligible families registered as asnaf will then receive zakat assistance such as school fee and educational equipment aid, Ramadan and Hari Raya assistance, as well as other forms of support depending on the families’ current needs. In addition, the outreach activities also identified other needs among Muslims in the surrounding areas through the distribution of zakat funds to asnaf gharimin and fisabilillah.
At the same time, LZS also conducted reviews of the current status of existing fakir and miskin asnaf families to ensure that the zakat assistance provided remains appropriate to each family’s needs. Today’s SJK operation also received cooperation from Penolong Amil Kariah (PAK) of LZS. For information, PAK are individuals appointed by LZS to carry out census duties, assessments, and to safeguard the welfare of Muslims eligible to receive zakat under the fakir, miskin, and mualaf categories.
As the eyes and ears of LZS, PAK play an important role as facilitators between LZS and the community, especially the asnaf.
As of June 2022, a total of 59,991 fakir and miskin asnaf families have received assistance from LZS. Of this number, 8,887 families are from the Hulu Langat district.
Also present were LZS Board of Trustees Member Dato’ Dr. Abdul Rahman Abdullah and LZS Chief Executive Officer Mohd Sabirin Mohd Sarbini.
