SHAH ALAM, 11 March 2022 – The Selangor Zakat Board (LZS) today contributed towards the purchase of Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) equipment for Qibla direction measurement for the Selangor State Mufti Department, valued at RM37,000, during a ceremony held here.
The GNSS is a satellite-based measuring device and Global Positioning System (GPS) tool that has the advantage of performing measurements during rain, cloudy weather, and at night, compared to current equipment such as the Theodolite, which relies on sunlight observation.
This contribution is part of LZS’s initiatives to optimize zakat fund distribution by supporting religious institutions and empowering the Muslim community, in addition to providing aid to meet the welfare needs of asnaf (eligible zakat recipients).
Also present at the event were the Selangor State Mufti, Dato’ Dr. Anhar Opir, and LZS’s Head of Asnaf Distribution Operations Division, Mohd Sabirin Mohd Sarbini.
