KLANG, 18 August 2021 – Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS) today handed over 7,000 sets of personal protective equipment (PPE) worth RM385,000.00 to the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) for use by personnel managing COVID-19 funerals in the state.
The handover was officiated by LZS Chief Executive Officer, Saipolyazan M. Yusop, to JAIS Director, Dato’ Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad, at a ceremony held here.
The PPE donation includes full PPE suits, boot covers, head covers, N95 face masks, aprons, headscarves, rubber gloves, face shields, and sanitizing liquids, which will be used by funeral management personnel.
This ensures that the handling of bodies is conducted according to the prescribed standard operating procedures (SOPs), fulfilling the obligations of fardu kifayah.
The PPE contribution is part of the Zakat Selangor Peduli assistance initiative announced on 2 July, which focuses on four main agendas for targeted zakat distribution.
These four agendas are: meeting the basic needs of asnaf (the poor, destitute, and converts), alleviating the burden of vulnerable groups, supporting the recovery of religious institutions in Selangor, and supporting the basic needs of frontline workers.
Through Zakat Selangor Peduli, LZS has allocated RM69.3 million to implement 19 assistance initiatives benefiting 59,322 recipients and 431 institutions in Selangor.
For reference, in 2020, LZS had donated 2,000 PPE sets to the Selangor State Health Department to address critical needs at that time.
Also present was the Selangor Royal Mufti, Dato’ Dr. Anhar Opir.
