SHAH ALAM, 20 December 2021 – Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS) has distributed contributions of RM600 to heads of asnaf fakir and poor families, including non-asnaf, affected by the floods in Selangor.
According to LZS Chief Executive Officer, Saipolyazan M. Yusop, “At present, LZS is collecting information on family heads in collaboration with District Disaster Committees to coordinate further aid distribution and ease the burden on the affected victims.”
He added that an additional RM250,000 has been allocated for dry food and essential items at Temporary Evacuation Centres (PPS) in districts housing flood victims. The contribution uses amil operational management funds as a sign of concern from zakat officers towards flood victims.
“LZS is preparing 5,000 cooked food packs daily to be distributed to all PPS under district office coordination, and this assistance will continue for five days. Yesterday, the first 5,000 packs were delivered to the Klang District Office, which then distributed them to the affected PPS.”
“In addition, to facilitate and expedite additional aid to affected flood victims, RM90,000 has been allocated to the LZS Flood Emergency Fund. This assistance will be supplemented according to current needs.”
In the same development, Saipolyazan stated that LZS will provide several forms of post-flood assistance to help those affected, especially among asnaf fakir and poor families, as well as institutions.
“For asnaf fakir and poor families whose homes are damaged, they can provide information to the assistant amil kariah so that repair assistance can be provided according to needs, subject to terms and eligibility.”
“LZS, in collaboration with the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS), will also provide repair assistance such as carpets, audio system equipment, and other items to mosques and suraus damaged during the floods.”
He added that the latest information on flood assistance will be updated from time to time via LZS’s official social media channels.
