LZS Allocates RM32.6 Million in Zakat Distribution to Fund School Preparations for Children of Asnaf Fakir, Poor, and Converts

SHAH ALAM, 13 December 2021 – Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS) has allocated zakat distribution totaling RM32,557,590.00 (RM32.6 million) to 31,954 heads of families among asnaf fakir, poor, and converts across Selangor to fund school preparations for the 2022 session.

The symbolic handover was officiated by the Selangor Mufti, Dato’ Dr Anhar Opir, in front of 150 asnaf today.

This school assistance is distributed annually to ease the burden of registered asnaf, particularly in providing school necessities and covering school fees for their children.

For the 2022 school session, a total of 66,160 students, from preschool to secondary school levels, will benefit from the zakat distribution.

Each National Primary School student will receive school supplies valued at RM170.00, and each Religious Primary School student will receive RM150.00. Meanwhile, each National or Religious Secondary School student will receive RM200.00.

The school supplies include a set of uniforms, shoes and socks, equipment such as bags, stationery, and more. They can be redeemed using the family head’s MyKad at selected supermarkets such as Lotus, Borong SAKAN, and Canggih, based on the allocated assistance, from today (13 December 2021) until 28 February 2022.

Recipients from the Hulu Langat, Kuala Langat, and Sepang districts can redeem school supplies online at www.terasds.com, with the items delivered directly to the asnaf’s home through a collaboration between LZS and Teraju Ekonomi Asnaf Sdn Bhd (TERAS).

In addition, each student will receive school fee assistance ranging from RM100 to RM200, depending on their level of education.

The students will also receive an additional RM100 each to cover other school-related needs. This will be disbursed via three methods: credit to the family head’s bank account, V-Cash vouchers at any Bank Islam branch, or cash for certain cases.

On average, each family will receive assistance according to their maximum dependents, up to RM2,000 per family.

During the same event, the Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS), represented by its Chief Corporate Officer and Chairman of the PKNS Zakat Management Committee, Idris, handed over a RM300,000.00 contribution under the “Kasihku Zakat Selangor” program.

This contribution is a PKNS redistribution to support the school needs of children from asnaf fakir, poor, and convert families.

Also present was the Head of LZS Asnaf Distribution Operations Division, Mohd Sabirin Mohd Sarbini.
