BANTING, 26 July 2025 – “I am grateful; I didn’t expect so many people to come and help. My home is now more comfortable and safe.”
This was expressed by Mohd Luthfie Jumain, 46, a zakat recipient suffering from heart complications and chronic diabetes, after his home in Sijangkang, Banting was cleaned through the gotong-royong initiative of Skuad Payung Rasa, organized by the Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS).
Skuad Payung Rasa is a program mobilized together with the Zakat Selangor community, involving nursing students from City University Cyberjaya as part of the “Payung Rasa” campaign, which focuses on the welfare of asnaf in Selangor.
More than 50 volunteers participated in the gotong-royong to clean Mohd Luthfie’s home, including LZS staff, university students, and members of the Jawatankuasa Masjid Jamiul Ehsani Sijangkang. Special guests included artists Azhan Rani and Eida Moin, who supported and assisted with the cleaning work.
Activities included painting the house, removing old items, and replacing worn-out basic equipment. The home also received new household items from Hospital SALAM Shah Alam through its General Manager, Akim Affandi Ahmad, including furniture, beds, carpets, and daily necessities.
According to Siti Aishah Abu Bakar, Head of Corporate Communications at LZS, Skuad Payung Rasa symbolizes solidarity between zakat institutions and the public in supporting those in need.
“This program not only provides physical assistance but also nurtures awareness and the value of compassion among people. The presence of community members themselves carries great meaning for the recipients,” she said.
She added that LZS will also carry out full repair works on Mohd Luthfie’s house, including fixing leaking roofs and dilapidated walls.
“Follow-up assistance regarding living and health needs will also be assessed to ensure Mr. Luthfie’s life is more secure and comfortable,” she added.
The Zakat Community Program “Payung Rasa” is part of LZS’s field initiatives to strengthen social networks through direct engagement with asnaf, while encouraging active participation from the community, especially youth.
