Functions & Roles of Zakat

Why We Pay Zakat

By paying zakat, we contribute to reducing social gaps and providing assistance to those in need. Additionally, giving zakat also helps improve the economic capacity of the ummah.

The wealth given as zakat allows Muslims to assist in the economic development of the community and encourages a more equitable distribution of wealth, while also purifying the heart and oneself from greed.

In Islam, zakat is also obligatory as one of the pillars of Islam, in accordance with the command of Allah in the Quran regarding the obligation to pay zakat.

By paying zakat, Muslims perform one of the practices mandated in their religion and demonstrate their obedience to Allah.

How Zakat Works

The functions of zakat in Islam are as follows:

Zakat functions to purify the wealth of Muslims from greed and selfishness. By paying zakat, Muslims are able to cleanse their wealth and receive blessings from Allah.

Zakat also serves to enhance humanity within society. Through the payment of zakat, Muslims help the poor and those in need, thereby easing their burdens and strengthening social solidarity.

One of the objectives of zakat is to eradicate poverty in society. By collecting and distributing zakat fairly, Muslims can help those who are less fortunate meet their basic needs.

Zakat plays an important role as one of the pillars of Islam and as a form of worship that requires Muslims to give a portion of their wealth for the benefit of others and to purify their wealth.
