Functions & Roles of Zakat

Why We Pay Zakat

Paying zakat is a means of bridging social gaps and providing support to those in need. It also plays a vital role in strengthening the economic capacity of the ummah.

Zakat allows Muslims to contribute to the development and welfare of the community, promotes a more equitable distribution of wealth and purifies the heart from greed.

Beyond its social and economic benefits, zakat is a religious obligation, one of the pillars of Islam, mandated by Allah in the Quran as an essential act of worship.

By paying zakat, Muslims perform one of the practices mandated in their religion and demonstrate their obedience to Allah.

How Zakat Works

The functions of zakat in Islam are as follows:

Zakat functions to purify the wealth of Muslims from greed and selfishness. By paying zakat, Muslims are able to cleanse their wealth and receive blessings from Allah.

Zakat also serves to enhance humanity within society. Through the payment of zakat, Muslims help the poor and those in need, thereby easing their burdens and strengthening social solidarity.

One of the objectives of zakat is to eradicate poverty in society. By collecting and distributing zakat fairly, Muslims can help those who are less fortunate meet their basic needs.

Zakat plays an important role as one of the pillars of Islam and as a form of worship that requires Muslims to give a portion of their wealth for the benefit of others and to purify their wealth.
