SHAH ALAM, 15 September 2021 – A total of five students sponsored under the Lembaga Zakat Selangor (LZS) Dermasiswa program departed for Jordan today to pursue their undergraduate studies.
They were joined by 60 other students, including two recipients of the Special Chief Minister’s Scholarship. The departure of these students was coordinated by the Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS).
According to LZS Chief Executive Officer, Saipolyazan M. Yusop, “This Dermasiswa sponsorship involves a zakat allocation of RM104,000.00 per student for a four-year study period, covering annual tuition fees, preparation allowance, return flight tickets, book purchases, and living expenses. These students are among the best selected through the interview process, and it is hoped that they will achieve success and contribute back to Selangor in the future.”
Currently, 93 students continuing their studies in the Middle East are receiving Dermasiswa sponsorship from LZS. Of these, 16 are from the asnaf fakir and poor category, while the remaining 77 are asnaf fisabilillah whose studies are funded using zakat funds.
