SHAH ALAM, 26 July 2022 – A total of 1,228 fakir and miskin asnaf in Selangor have now become successful entrepreneurs, owning their own businesses and even becoming zakat contributors.
According to the Chairman of the Selangor Islamic Religious Council (MAIS), Tan Sri Dato’ Seri Abdul Aziz Mohd Yusof, from 2013 to 2022, 1,228 asnaf entrepreneurs have received business training in various fields under the guidance of Teraju Ekonomi Asnaf (TERAS) Sdn. Bhd., a subsidiary of MAIS.
“This is evidence of the benefits of zakat, not merely as bait, but as a fishing rod to help asnaf live independently and achieve success on their own,” he said during the launch of the Selangor Asnaf Entrepreneur Transformation Program (TUAS) at Wisma PKPS today.
The program brought together 170 asnaf entrepreneurs and former asnaf to create opportunities for broader business networking, as well as exposure to financial funding opportunities and business expansion support from other agencies.
Also celebrated during the event were 10 asnaf entrepreneurs who received the 2022 Asnaf Entrepreneur Icon Award for their business achievements.
Also present were TERAS Chairman Dato’ Ibrahim Md Yusof, TERAS Board Director Dato’ Bakhtiar Hussin, and TERAS General Manager Mohd Hasnul Redza Abdul Rahim.
